Bad Bunny already shared the stage briefly when Jennifer Lopez headlined the 2020 Super Bowl, and we weren't subjected to this degree of racist outrage then. But a lot has changed in 5 years. After the hideous display at the Ryder Cup, I don't know why anyone would come to the US for the Olympics or the World Cup or from Puerto Rico to perform in the Super Bowl.

I was discussing Doordash with a friend recently. He has access to McDonalds, Applebees, several other American fast casual places, two Mexican-ish and one Chinese-ish place. Granted it's a mid-size Midwestern city. I showed him my Doordash order history with pho, Nepalese, Malaysian, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Sudanese, Creole, Indian, Japanese.... All of the stores run by immigrants. If for no other reason than my palate and my kids' palates, please keep America diverse. And all of these immigrants are amazing for America.

This week, a 30-something medical professional told me she was “shocked” to recently learn that puerto ricans are “actually U.S. citizens!” She was upset that they “are even allowed to vote” if they live in a U.S. state. I do not understand how grown adults can be so uninformed and openly hostile about other U.S. citizens simply existing.

Church schools. In my neighborhood, one just received almost $1 mil in vouchers. That’s just one. I don’t think any of the public schools have met budget or hired enough teachers. Robbing Peter keeps Paul ignorant.

It has been their plan to get rid of the Department of education and replace it with the 2025 Christian nationalism agenda to be forced indoctrinated on every American as the one religion in this country, which is the partner to fascism

A big reason church schools started in the first place— racism. Nothing to do with Jesus.

Sadly, one solution to many of our problems would be if PR became a state instead of a territory, but with the United States in the state it is, I can’t fault Puerto Ricans for not wanting to be affiliated just now.

You encapsulated all of it perfectly, John. I appreciate it very much when someone takes all of the thoughts swirling around in my brain and plants it on a page in a cohesive, compelling composition. Thank you for that!

You nailed it when you said pigment purity was the issue. I honestly can say I have no clue about his mus8c, but he has every right to create and sing and be successful. NFL is trying to reach younger audiences. This is how uut it done. Trump us bringing the battle to a city nearyou. In his meeting with the generals and brass he told them their oath called for them to fight domestic enemies. He said the cities were full of terrorists and the citizens should be proving grounds for the military. He called Pritzker by name.

We ought to be calling Trump, "The Sick Bunny". What a vile semi-human being he is!

MAGA and Trump will LOVE me!

I’m white, German and English heritage, can trace my ancestry in this country to 1635 when my ancestors co-founded Providence, RI with Roger Williams — and I’m composing a multi-media piece combining the most profound music ever composed, the last movement of the Beethoven op. 111 piano sonata, overlaid with the most inane and vapid speeches by Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and other MAGAts.

The title of my piece: “Epitaph”.

How long before the squatter in the [very] White House threatens the NFL's tax status if they don't nix Bad Bunny, and get a "Murican" artist?

Racism is an insult to our shared humanity. Racism was illegal in this country before January 2025. It existed in the minds of racist individuals, but there were laws and consequences, laws and protections. Now the hate and greed of a mob boss in our White House has taken over.

As someone of Puerto Rican descent, I feel this story deep in my bones. Even though we are American, there’s long been the sense that we are treated as second-class citizens — a fainting of our dignity that I’ve wrestled hard to overcome in my own life. (I explore this in greater depth in the article below.) What strikes me here is how quickly this racism exposes itself when a Boricua artist rises to global heights.

But having just turned 50, I refuse to carry this racialized inferiority into my next decade, and I am resolved to begin a new chapter of unconditional racial self-affirmation as a fellow bearer of the image of God!

A brilliant, hard hitting essay on the racism fueling opposition to Bad Bunny (B.A.M.- O.) performing at the SuperBowl half time. I encourage you to send this to the OPINIONS sections of the NYTimes or Washington Post. It needs wide circulation, John.

I hope all of your readers will join me in fasting for Yom Kippur from sundown on Wednesday, 10/01 until sundown on Thursday, 10/02. We all need to atone for the crimes and sins that this fascist regime has done with our tax money, on our behalf or with our complicity. We need to ask for forgiveness for I.C.E. raids, destruction of families & deportations; the lies, deceptions, and selfishness in destroying U.S.A.I.D., women's right to reproductive choice, civil & voting rights for BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ people, etc., etc.

STOP STOP STOP !!!

If American people of ALL descents are willing to let some white bigot, racist, misogynistic individuals tell THEM who they are and where do they belong, what dreams can they dream and not build their own future by their (or they're, or there) own imagination.... then I am afraid : "Houston we have a problem!"
