For the man who helps keep me sane for five minutes every morning these days, it's time to share a quote that's been helping keep my perspective on sanity for decades:

"it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti 💜

My 97 year old mother recently passed after a short illness. Her health had been rapidly declining and my brother and I are thankful that she peacefully died in her sleep, free from pain and anxiety.

My cousin called to offer her condolences, then went into a 3 hour hate filled rant against immigrants, Puerto Ricans, even though her son in law is Puerto Rican, as is his child, her grandson. Anti gay screed, even though her son is gay, attacks against "towel heads", against Vietnamese, Chinese, etc. She was truly unhinged. Her hatred was palpable through the phone. I don't recall her exhibiting such visceral hatred prior to the election of trump. She is a retired prison dental hygienist who never showed a bit of empathy toward the patients she cared for since his election. She ranted against those on SNAP, against having any social programs that serve the poor and disabled and sneering at me, my husband and family for being "one of those liberals", berating me for voting for Pres. Obama, Biden and supporting Kamala Harris. She made outrageous claims of 50% of her pay going to taxes to support the undesirables. She must use that republican math since my husband probably made near triple her income and our total income tax burden is about 17%. Her brother, highly educated at a private Boston college, and her sister apparently feel the same.

I was truly shell shocked. She supports Puerto Rico becoming a state so the government can send them all back to PR, like it can force people to live where it tells them to live. She has no empathy for the millions of people being terrified by ICE, many we are finding to be US citizens. All while claiming we are a nation under God, and Christians. She possibly had the most demented, hate filled rant I've hear from any maga. All this while I'm still processing the grief of losing my mother.

She spoke of meeting for lunch sometime. I prefer to never see her again and hope she doesn't attend my mother's celebration of life memorial that will be held at a later date. My brother, my children and I truly don't need or want such a hateful, disgusting person attending my Democratic mother's memorial service. How people can live with such hatred in their hearts is beyond my comprehension.
