Did you watch any of the celebration? Jennifer Hudson's somewhat bluesy "The Impossible Dream" really hit home for me. Have always loved Man of La Mancha, and the "scorned and covered with scars" line, with the camera cutting to him when it was sung, made me think of exactly the kinds of things you just laid out here. Got me teary-eyed.
If you weren't watching, check YouTube for it later (MS NOW aired it), and watch at least her speech and then his. They both spoke well and honestly, and they repeatedly pointed out all of the good things in a way that contrasted them with someone whose name they never needed to mention.
Truly uplifting to hear their voices and their celebration of inclusion.
I bet you wrote this after seeing their legacy come to life at the library opening this afternoon. I cried at the shocking juxtaposition of this couple - truly leaders and people of character with, well I won't even use his name in the same comment. This day belongs to them. Thanks, Obamas!
Thank you for this, for reminding us of what we had once and hopefully can find our way back to at some point. Dignity, true kindness, intelligence, courage.
Crying tears from despair, anger, sadness. I will never understand how we could fall back to the mockery we have in the White House now. After 2 decades I got American Citizenship. I thought for sure America made this huge stap towards progress. And then we ended up with the Trumps. What happened America?
Lovely , thank you and Thank you to the Obamas , a brilliant , loving couple who practice respect and caring in every breath they speak . What an honest and genuine blast of words . Grace and integrity . Something we’ve been missing terribly.
I love the Obamas and miss them and their delightfully elegant force in our lives . More please.
I miss the Obamas sssooo much! I miss decency from the White House, but was heartened by seeing the Bushes, the Bidens, and the Clintons in attendance. Also Kamala Harris and so many esteemed dignitaries and celebrities. Glad that “you know who” decided to sit this one out and not try to make the occasion about himself.
I miss the class, the dignity, the courage, and the honesty of both President and Mrs. Obama. Their legacy will be remembered in the history books as true, caring leadership.
The celebration today was joyful, optimistic, kind, loving and hopeful! Danced along with the music! The diversity there! That s the America we know...
I haven’t cried tears of joy in such a long time…thanks John….thanks Obamas
