'The Christian Left' Conversation With John Fugelsang

Reflection questions:

Do you agree with John that the MAGA conservatives currently pushing for the 10 Commandments in schools and government buildings don’t actually believe in the 10 Commandments? If so, how do you explain that cognitive dissonance?

John says that “the entire Republican Party is a rejection of both God and Jesus.” Given this, how has that party ended up commandeering Christianity so well?

John describes the media as the real culprit for “not being the referee” and pushing back on the Right’s hateful expression of Christianity. Is there a path to giving a compassionate expression of religion equal time?

When talking about the Christians who have embraced MAGA, John says that we need to be able to engage them on the Scriptures, as that might at least meet them where they are, and to do so not in a vacuum, so that others around them (spouses, kids, social circles) might be swayed even if they aren’t. How do you respond to those suggestions?

What are your takeaways from my conversation with John? What has he confirmed for you? What emotions did our time stir up in you?
