WTF?! Conversation With Vote Common Good's Robb Ryerse

Why local politics is transformational

Robb Ryerse is running for Congress in Arkansas. He is the founder and pastor of Vintage Fellowship. Robb has been the Political Director of Vote Common Good since 2018. He is also the co-founder with Dr. Chris Jones of Vortex PAC. Robb has written three books, including The Gospel According to Donald Trump and Running for Our Lives: A Story of Faith, Politics, and the Common Good. He lives in Springdale, AR, with his wife, Vanessa.

Robb and I met seven or eight years ago when he and I were both pastors with shifting theologies and politics. Robb soon announced a Congressional run and began his work with Vote Common Good, an organization devoted to encouraging people to vote for politicians who lift up all people, as well as encouraging those who want to become Common Good candidates themselves!

Robb is a strong and strong human being who leads with empathy and kindness. I know you’re going to really enjoy his perspectives on faith, local politics, and why you may be the kind of person your community needs to run!

Reflection Questions:

Have you ever felt the pull to run for office? What were the real or believed barriers that prevented you from moving forward?

Robb talked about the need for ordinary people with specific passions and areas of expertise to be in the places where laws are made, instead of career politicians. Is some sort of public office something you could imagine pursuing? How might you begin exploring this idea?

If you don’t feel called to run for office, is there a way you can become more involved in your local politics: supporting a candidate/party with volunteer hours, giving financially, offering your specific talents to a grassroots effort?
