As Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was pausing in a moment of rapturous applause during his Vice Presidential acceptance speech at the DNC, the camera panned to his family, whose effusive joy and pride were unmistakable.
As Pete Buttigieg said so beautifully in his Convention speech regarding the narrow thinking of those like Trump and Vance, that they are..."one of those guys who thinks if you don't live the life he has in mind for you, then you don't count."
Trump has brought out the very worst in so many people. It is tragic that he has been able to do such a successful job. There was a time not so long ago, that if a person running for any office, let alone the President of the United States, mocked a person with disabilities, his or her political career would end. Full stop. Our citizenry would not have tolerated it. The Evangelicals would have been one of the first groups to condemn this hateful and unkind act. How very, very low they have fallen. I am a Christian and have been for decades. It is embarrassing to me that Evangelicals call themselves Christians. There is literally very little evidence they follow the teachings of Christ Jesus at all. For them, it's all about pointing out the faults of others. We are all capable of being our worst selves. That's why a continual walk with God is so vitally important. Without His love and wisdom we can lose our way. It's clear that some folks who claim to be Christians have lost their way. They've gone to a place that a Christian should never go - mocking another human being. Yet, once you cross that line I guess mocking a young man for expressing his love and pride in his dad is acceptable. Shame on them!
Thank you for addressing this, John. I was shocked to hear the disgusting attack on Gus Walz, and on what I thought was one of the most moving, unscripted moments of the DNC. I’ve sadly grown use to the vile behavior of Trump and his MAGA sycophants. But this was an even deeper dive into their sewer for the reasons you lift into the light. All the more reason to “do something” in the coming days.
What we witnessed was the most authentic display of raw human emotion that is the best of human being! If someone was not moved by Gus Walz, they should question themselves and ask whether or not it’s still possible for them to recover their own humanity!
I remember that and I felt so bad for her. She didn’t break her stride but I believe that hurt her feelings and worse, none of her siblings were there for her. I was in tears when I saw Gus happy for his dad, I saw hope in tears as well, I guess it’s okay because she is a girl!
Ann Coulter was one of these ‘dirty dealer’s’ , who find self satisfaction on making an unnecessary , unwanted, unreasonable , vindictive comment on this young man’s absolute love and devotion to his dad .
Unfortunately , she apparently enjoys her verbal violence .
Gus is a beautiful young man and part of a family that takes my breath away—so loving, so genuine. We got to see love in so many different forms this week, and it was beautiful for my soul.
You always have a beautiful way of expressing what so many of us feel. Bravo to your comments regarding Gus Walz and those “other” people who prefer to profess hatred, bigotry, and insensitivity.
Unfortunately, this did NOT start with Trump...he just let it off the leash. "Boys don't cry" has been around for decades, and the bullying of boys by men into not showing emotion is the ugly root of this crap
I'm glad that I'm part of Team Gus and not with the bullies.
I LOVE “Team Gus”!!!!!

I think of the moment when Trump pointedly ignored his daughter Tiffany when she came towards him at the RNC. Which dad do you want to emulate?

Pitiful Maga Mess.
Yes, Trump and minions need to be called out repeatedly for their unloving, toxic words and behavior.
This grandmother is joining Team Gus. ♥️

AMEN. I cried like a baby when I saw Gus crying. It was so wonderful.
Thank you! We all know people who don’t follow the norm. They are beautiful people and are loved for who they are!❤️

Thank you, thank you!!!
I'll take Gus Walz over Don Jr. or Eric Trump any day.
Yes! Team Gus all the way!!
