I woke up at 3:30 AM and almost immediately started sobbing. Our Great Depression for sure. I agree that "Living fully and loving well will be our greatest resistance right now." But right now, as in today, I don't have any energy for that.

The noise is indeed unbearable. It is a loud whoosh of raw sewage cresting, then crashing, pouring out of this White House onto our land. Large chunks of Project 2025 interspersed create the stench. This lends strong credence to our community’s correctly characterizing and then naming our foe as psychopathic neo-fascists. We did days of study to determine the correct nomenclature. I think now it is obvious to everyone. They are psychopathic neo-fascists. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/my-name-for-them?r=3m1bs

Carl Selfe, I agree! I watched this YouTube presentation by After Skool about “Mass Psychosis: How an Entire Population Becomes Mentally Ill”. This is three years old, but sounds like it was made yesterday after the muskrat’s nazi salute. I hope I copied this correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09maaUaRT4M

You get the golden prize. The video was perfect and timely. I extracted some material for tomorrow. The mass psychosis definition explains a lot.

I have been unable to read the news of what he has already done in less than 24 hours of taking office. I just can’t get past the headlines. We knew what was coming but now it’s here and I feel paralyzed. I will give myself this one day to absorb the shock and then get back to doing my part in the long fight ahead.

I totally get it. I cried listening to Raphael Warnock preach on Sunday morning. He was remembering how we felt when Obama was elected. I and many others thought we had finally made it through the civil rights era. Other than volunteering in my community that is still recovering from Helene ( WNC) I can only think to write and call my R senator ( Tillis) and R Rep ( Chuck Edwards), I have little faith in these guys. Pretend that Ted Budd doesn’t even exist. So looks like I will rely on John, Adam Kinzinger, the Bulwark, Marc Elias and Raphael Warnock to keep me informed and sane. ( when I can read them)

I’m so sorry you were hit by the hurricane. I live in NC also but my area wasn’t affected. Keep writing to your congress people. It doesn’t matter that we didn’t vote for them. They need to hear from us all the time. We are also their constituents!

When you think DT could not possibly stoop further…he does. Trump officials have also taken down a government website that helped women find health care and understand their rights. And so everyone…we as women must fight the same battles that John so eloquently wrote…but we must fight also for just for being born female. And I foolishly thought that battle had been won. Silly me. So to all the women who voted for DT…you should have done your homework.

Thinking seriously about reliving the 70's, buying a small greenhouse, and growing something special that I'll name Willie Nelson...something I can bake with :)

John. I am praying for you and all of us who fear and are so troubled about our future as a democracy and free society. We must believe that we can get through this time. I am current member of the St Vincent de Paul society which helps neighbors in need. I ha given me a purpose in retirement and I continue to Hope it will always get me through by helping others live in dignity. Somehow how by Gods grace we will be ok.

Thank you for this - these words stood out to me: "Living fully and loving well will be our greatest resistance right now." Forming alliances with the like minded, treasuring the ties that bind us, and constantly looking to grow that circle is key to getting through this. The best place to look for a path forward is in the eyes of real patriots.

John, your comments and reflections resonated powerfully with my thoughts, words, and hopes. I appreciate the fact that you and others are sharing these feelings. Our country, the United States of America, and everyone have faced the most significant challenges since the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WW II, and the Cold War. I am praying that more concerned citizens will not only speak up but also shout the warning of this present evil. I am reminded of an extraordinary patriot, Paul Revere, who rode through the night to warn the people of New England of an approaching danger that posed the greatest threat to their person, their families, and their prodigy. We are in just as much danger today! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and philosophy.

The first half of your word, John, explains our grief. The second half encourages us to renew, remember the good we can do and have done for the greater good for healing, joy and love. So, may we all go and “wade in the water” wade in the water… wade in the water.”

I have told my husband ever since 2016, when I die, I want my cause of death to read "Donald f-ing tRump". I am serious. It also got me thinking..with all the brilliant lawyers out there, why couldn't we bring an enormous class action suit against this piece of trash!? For all the pain & emotional suffering he & his tribe has wrought on the good, sensitive, caring people of this country, dear God in heaven, he needs to be held accountable for something! Think of the mental health practices that have sprung up, as a result of our collective depression, a pandemic & all the free-floating anxiety! The drug companies have also benefitted greatly w/allthe meds that have been prescribed because of this pain & suffering. So come on America-that-cares for one another! We need to start telling our doctors, our therapists the real reasons we are there! Any lawyers out there "listening"?

I also forgot to mention how many more deaths by suicide there have been & will continue to be because of the pain inflicted on people. We need to keep track of this & speak up & out! There are so many sensitive souls out there who just can't cope w/this level of stress, for lack of a better word & the havoc is just beginning!

Thanks again, John! "So grieve, but then move on" hit me the most. My husband & I have been to too many funerals to count: What this post makes me recall is that @ most of them, we cry, we reminisce, then we do often also laugh. We end up saying something like, that's exactly what Tommy would have wanted. The beginning of November sucked, then came the reality that we have a choice everyday: Whatcha gonna do to fight back? When you think about it, the list can grow quickly. So...send out to the Universe what you'd like to receive in return. Of course, also be realistic: An occasional f-bomb & a peace sign with a finger missing is also medicinal :) Peace Out!
