Despite the vast majority of Americans rejecting our complicity in what international courts call genocide, it carries on. Unless we reject the simplicity of this dichotomy we will allow democracy to die under a false dialectic. Technocratic authoritarianism looms regardless of what happens November 6.

If we can't rid ourselves of Citizens United, we will never rid ourselves of the corruption that underlies so much of our policy and so many of our battles. Public education. Environmental protection. Access to health care. Small business support. Unwinding monopolies. Importing fuel-efficient vehicles and increasing competition.
Years ago I learned that the Internal Revenue Code is one of the most effective mechanisms that directs economic choices and is a hidden source of inequality and power for those it favors. I've never been crazy about a flat tax, but our tax code is an unholy mess.
