Shiloh Hendrix, a white woman from Rochester, Minnesota, was caught on camera in a local park playground using the N-word toward a 5-year-old Black autistic boy who she claimed had taken her diaper bag.
I read this with my gut in knots. Every line. Every truth. Every indictment of what we’ve become—and what we’re still becoming. I agree with all of it. Fully. Painfully. Furiously.
What happened in that park wasn’t just a racist outburst. It was a sermon. A sermon to white America, preached not in words but in dollars. Nearly $700,000 raised not in spite of her hatred—but because of it. That’s not just racism—that’s a reward system. That’s a message broadcast loud and clear: “You say what we wish we could say, and we’ll make you rich for it.”
Let’s not fool ourselves—this didn’t come from the fringe. These are everyday folks. Church folks. PTA folks. Neighbors. People who will sing hymns on Sunday morning and wire money to a woman who degraded a five-year-old Black autistic boy for sport. And they’ll sleep like babies after doing it. Because they don’t see hate—they see home team.
I’m a white man. I’ve served this country—twenty years in uniform. My father served. My grandfather. My granduncles. One of them never came home—buried in Belgium after fighting real fascists in World War II. And I am sick to my soul that this is what that service stands next to now. That in a country soaked in memorials to sacrifice, we lift up people like Shiloh Hendrix as if they’re the patriots.
The most damning truth here isn’t that she did it. It’s that she wasn’t disqualified by it.
In fact, she was elevated.
That’s the real indictment. Not the slur. Not the camera footage. But the response.
Because what this tells us—what we cannot pretend not to see—is that for millions of white Americans, racism is not a bug. It’s a beacon. A bonding ritual. A signal of shared grievance, righteous cruelty, and counterfeit victimhood.
And what do they teach their children?
That hatred gets you paid. That supremacy makes you a hero. That cruelty isn't just permissible—it's marketable.
We like to say "this isn't who we are." But the money says otherwise.
This is who we are—if we keep choosing it.
And over and over, we do.
Thank you for writing this. For refusing to look away. For naming what so many try to dress up or dilute.
This is ridiculous. She caused the problem, she used offensive language, she made accusatory remarks, she jumped to conclusions, and she ran and told anyone who would listen that SHE was wronged?? What in the world? She would have had a fit if someone reacted that way to her son.
Blonde, inappropriate behavior, blaming others for what she did…sound familiar?….Actions speak louder than words.
Truly a KKKaren. What do you want to bet that she and her family do not, in fact, end up relocating, but instead take the money and run – – straight to the bank?
Reminds me of the Central Park Karen dog walker who accused the Black bird watcher of threatening her. But in those “before times” (LOL) she was punished by being shamed into losing her job and he was compensated. How quickly it has flipped!
Ah yes, the GiveSendGo Gospel: “Blessed are the racists, for theirs is the crowdfunding kingdom.” America really said, “Hurl slurs at a Black autistic child, collect $675K, and call it persecution.” This isn’t just about one hateful woman—it’s about the thousands who saw themselves in her and opened their wallets like it was a revival meeting. Jesus wept. Then probably flipped a table.
"...the real human tragedy here is that thousands of white Americans (nearly all of them professing to be followers of Jesus) saw in Shiloh Hendrix someone who spoke for them, who embodied the hatred they harbor in their hearts, someone who stood as a playground proxy, spewing the dehumanizing words that they only dream of using.
Much like with Donald Trump, Hendrix’s unapologetic display of racism toward a Black child is allowing self-identified Christian white supremacists all over this nation to hate vicariously through her, to feel power through her, to celebrate whiteness through her..."
And that my friends is the story of the 2024 election. Stop all the blathering about inflation, eggs, Joe Biden. All blatant cover ups for the reality expressed in the above quote. The election turned on the white "christian" vote--pro trump! End of false explanations!
Partially true, but certainly not wholly so. Was the Orange Cluster-fucker dog-whistling white supremacists and knowingly being voted in by them because they wanted what he was selling? Yes, absolutely!
However, many who voted for Orange Shitler now are remorsefully wringing their hands and saying, "What the fuck have I contributed to?" Many are angry because they really did think the Evil Orange Poobah was going to be a boon to this country's economy because they're too under-educated or outright ignorant to understand the full complexity of economics and that actually they were doing just fine under Biden. Did they do their homework and take responsibility for researching how much of what CONold the Great Snake Oil Salesman was selling them was in fact true? Nope. They allowed themselves to be lulled, brainwashed and swept up into tRump fever, probably loving the camaraderie and sense of belonging to that enthusiastic cult of nitwits. They handed over their brains and agency, allowing themselves to be conned, duped, bamboozled, swindled, hoodwinked, tricked, played, defrauded and cheated by the Master Double-Crosser. They were easy targets cuz they took no responsibility to inform themselves. They let themselves be suckered and beguiled. Consequently, they were betrayed because they put themselves in that position.
Don't forget that a weirdly large number of voters of color contributed to this disaster, and we know they didn't do so because they support white supremacy.
And now that they've "woke" up out of the toxic miasma of MAGA-t fog to a horrendous grim new reality, many are wah-wahing and others are joining forces with those who are working to depose the Lyin' King. This fact alone shows that NOT ALL VOTED FOR TRUMP BECAUSE THEY WANTED AND SUPPORTED RACISM AND WHITE SUPREMACY.
To these newly "woke" I say: It's not too late. Join hands with all of us fighting to stand against and resist this dystopian fascist regime and overthrow the Orange Malignancy!
I wish it were so. If 37% or whatever his poll numbers are, still support him that is not the shift one would expect considering his and his morons first 100 crazed days. The question remains, how do you de-program a cult of 78m people, when the brainwashing continues unabated, FOX, EWTN, and don't leave out the "concern" expressed by Joe Kahn (democracy isn't the issue) and the whore of Babylon, NYTimes? From what I have seen people of color were an insignificant % of his support, which only shows anyone can be brainwashed.
In terms of white Christians, I quote Phil Ochs, "In the silence of their churches, who knows what they pray."
You make good points, but despite the 37% who claim to still support tRUMP, I still strongly believe that the tide is changing, and gradually we're seeing a significant shift. In fact, 37% is a 12.5% drop from his election result of 49.5%, so yeah, progress...
Will hardcore racists like Shiloh Hendrix ever be deprogrammed? Likely not, but there is a teensy-weensy chance, given the right circumstances.
Remember the case of that white supremacist in Santa Rosa, CA, who was literally crucified on a cross and dumped bleeding and suffering on the street -- by his own Neo Nazi group (for what reason I don't recall) -- and who came to his rescue when others passed him by? A Black man. And that Black man gave him help, kindness, compassion and support -- love, in other words -- and changed his life forevermore (he did a 180 re who he now considered "his people") for the good. It can happen.
And maybe, just maybe, someday Shiloh will get smacked upside the head and get her whole reality turned inside-out for the better.
Don't want to seem Pollyanna-ish, cuz God/Goddess knows I'm surely not that, but -- call me a crazy optimist -- I do have unswervable hope and faith that eventually all will be okay.
It's true, Bonnie, that it is a time of horror right now, I can't argue that. I never thought that THIS country, OUR country, could become so divided that some of us cheer on the persecution, deprivation and suffering of others. I find this abhorrent and egregious to a grievous, shocking extreme, and I've cried over it, believe you me. But I also see an uprising coming because the majority of us won't stand for this hateful (pardon my French) rat fuckery and are resisting and working for good changes. Be of good heart! Work together with we who stand against these evils and create the change you want to see. Resist! Defy! And as Alek (Aleksander, Virgin Monk Boy), frequent encouraging writer here on John's Substack, says -- and I'm boiling it down to its essence -- LAUGH! SING! DANCE! Stay cheeky! Thumb your nose at despair! And RISE! We can do this, Bonnie! Together we can, will and must turn this around. Hang in there!
MAGA didn't win by 10%. If we have fair elections in 2026 and 2028, MAGA won't win. The problem is new voter suppression laws may pass on the MAGA "mandate". Remember Trump said "you won't have to vote again"? He wasn't kidding. Watch out.
A few years ago I read a non-fiction book about the ugly, real history of my hometown, Baltimore, in developing and enacting laws that created redlining- in Baltimore and subsequently in other cities and states.
It was profoundly sad to learn that my hometown was so infected by racism and deliberately created all white residential neighborhoods.
Was reading this book uncomfortable? Yes,it was. I finished it with a different understanding of Baltimore, the state of Maryland and the role of racism in the history of the state, and, indeed of the effect of those laws on the U.S.
We are all flawed human beings, capable of good and evil actions. Genuine leaders present us with the opportunity to learn from our shared past,to.admit and accept past wrongs and to say "No more". We can learn, we can be better, more caring and compassionate people- if we have the courage
It's shocking and sad that so many Americans are still so full of hatred and racism this many years since the Civil Rights Movement. I'm embarrassed to be an American for the first time in my life.
And let’s not forget that hundreds, if not thousands of Blacks, primarily men but also women are targeted by a police force born out of racist reaction to the Civil War, and have lost their lives in prisons, jails, along the road in routine traffic stops. No matter how many Blacks join the force or the military in modern times.
The so called justice system and every other institution in the US remains systematically racist. To this day.
It is horrible that any of us should be made to feel embarrassed about our faith. But then, there are people like this woman… far too many “Christians” that are not living Christ-like; not sharing Jesus the way we were commanded to share him. What happened to “love one another”? 😔
In my (72) years of life I have experienced the highest level of hypocrisy from people who proclaim themselves Christian. This includes several of my siblings who shunned me in 2018 when I called them out for supporting the separation of children from their parent(s) at the border.
This woman (Shiloh Hendrix) will pay the price in the long run. She may be ignorant enough to spend the money instead of putting it aside for legal repercussions. As for those giving the money, those people have always been around. Trump just gave them permission to pull their masks off and show their true heart (or lack of one).
Hear hear! And may I say, 1000% good on you for calling out your siblings "for supporting the separation of children from their parent(s) at the border"? Incredibly brave to stand up to family who are supporting evil actions. Big respect.
I agree with EVERYTHING you've said. I'm stunned that this is the outcome. When I watched that video three things came to mind.
1. She's swearing and using racial epithets with her baby under her arm listening to everything. WOW...just wow.
2. I'm sure that some of the people sending her money are the same ones that go after the libs that they hate so much, so they know firsthand what those threats look like and how scary they are. I'm sure that she does need the financial help. That said...the fact that she originally asked for $50K and then it went up to $250K and now she's almost at 3/4's of million for being an overt racist is very jarring.
3. As a black woman, from Iowa growing up in the 70's and 80's I had a very close friend whose father was a racist. When I played at her house after school there was a limited amount of time that I could be at there because I had to get out of dodge before he got home. It sadly became normal to me. The nice part was that she didn't let her dad's feelings stop her from being my friend. I guess I'll take solace in the fact that this video is EVERYWHERE so she's not going to be able to hide. I can only hope that her two children grow up to find her behavior abhorrent like my friend did.
At the end of the day, when I hear someone use that word while it hurts, it also makes me laugh because the person who uses it is weak, insecure and they don't possess the ability to use words intelligently. There are many different ways she could have handled that situation that wouldn't have ended up with her being scared and having to ask strangers for money. But then, isn't that what Trump and his ilk do? They make awful statements and tell ridiculous lies and then ask for money to reward their bad behavior and they get it.
When that’s all you got in your bankrupt brain, call someone a name to hurt them. We’ve been hearing that from bullies all our life, including our President.
I watched the video earlier in the week. What a piece of rascist vile trash she is. If it were me and my child was verbally racially assaulted like that and the man, not his father, who shot the video turned it over as evidence to the boys father and could be use it as evidence I would file a civil lawsuit. When I first saw the video her go fund me had already received well over one thousand dollars and it was growing. Other racists were commenting and donating. Each state has different laws but I would absolutely look into filing.
Wow!!..unfreak’n believable…$675k I’m astonished …and apparently naive to the numbers of these white Christian supremacy lunatics out there…frightening
I took cannot believe the way this has evolved. The blatant racism is nauseating in and of itself but the fact she has made out like bandits with it, is as you said a reflection of the racism of those donors. White "christian" nationalism is hateful and dangerous and all about power. It is not of the gospel but of hate and power. I know the site actually tamped some of that rhetoric, but it sure does not serve the purpose of the site, which I understand was to help missionaries not racists. But that is just what I read and may be a red herring. Keep calling this out John, we stand with you and behind you. I fear for our nation if all these folks are spewing that kind of hatred in front of their children and grandchildren. I hope we are better than that.
Clearly many of us are NOT better than that -- at least at this point in time. But as long as we live, we have many chances to reform our worst behaviors, so who knows? Maybe we really can become better than that.
I read this with my gut in knots. Every line. Every truth. Every indictment of what we’ve become—and what we’re still becoming. I agree with all of it. Fully. Painfully. Furiously.

I won’t be one of the silent.
Not now. Not ever.
Sir, you express what I feel so much more eloquently than I did in my comment. Thank you. And thank you for your service.
This is ridiculous. She caused the problem, she used offensive language, she made accusatory remarks, she jumped to conclusions, and she ran and told anyone who would listen that SHE was wronged?? What in the world? She would have had a fit if someone reacted that way to her son.

Truly a KKKaren. What do you want to bet that she and her family do not, in fact, end up relocating, but instead take the money and run – – straight to the bank?
And don't forget child neglect of her own "young children." Poisoned just as surely as a parent who doses their child with Vitamin A -- or cyanide.
Reminds me of the Central Park Karen dog walker who accused the Black bird watcher of threatening her. But in those “before times” (LOL) she was punished by being shamed into losing her job and he was compensated. How quickly it has flipped!
Doesn’t take much when you have the wrong leader appealing to the wrong ideas in the wrong people - they feel empowered instead of embarrassed.
Once again, this leads me to believe that we grossly underestimated the sheer number and magnitude of a**holes in this country.
I sure did.
