'The Christian Left' Conversation With Thom Hartmann

Reflection Questions:
Thom speaks about a group of Conservative religious people whose goal is “not to save souls, not to awaken people, not to make the world a better place, not to fulfill the obligations that Jesus put upon Christians, but to expand their own wealth and power. Why do you believe so many people have allowed themselves to embrace such a movement?

Thom says that he believes progressives need to take over the Democratic Party, so that it can more fully claim the work of caring for people and become the clear alternative to the Right’s oppression and exclusion. What are your thoughts on this, not just for the political Left but the religious Left? Have we watered down our message so as not to appear to extreme?

Thom says that the religious Left’s rejection of power, position, and wealth, while ensuring it will never create a massive religious movement, is actually its strength. Do you agree, and if so, how can progressive people of faith pushback against this incredibly powerful entity?

When it comes to dismantling Christian Nationalism, Thom says he believes that the hypocrisy of the Conservative movement has to be exposed; that we need to continue to show people the disparity between what they say they believe and what they practice. Do you agree with this strategy?
