These photos make me sick. What a tragedy that these soulless and selfish Republicans will never do anything to address this crisis, except “thoughts and prayers.” They are too beholden to the $$ from the NRA and their insane misinterpretation of the Second Amendment.
"Christian Nationalists" should be deemed a domestic terrorist group. One Christmas picture showed a boy about the age of the child that was just gunned down. Perhaps politicians' family need to see the carnage of what happens when an 8 year old child is destroyed by an AR -15.
Honestly, I don't think anything will happen until someone breaks into THEIR kids' and THEIR grandkids' school and opens fire. And even then .... it's doubtful. It's like these people are completely devoid of compassion and reason.
Uvalde voted for trump after the shooting and supported abbot.
"Five and half months after the worst school shooting in Texas history took place in their backyard, Uvalde County voters turned out resoundingly Tuesday night for GOP Governor Greg Abbott, who opposes even common-sense gun control measures. Republican domination in the county prevails despite months of agitation for gun control and transparency by the families of children lost at the Robb Elementary massacre on May 24.
With all precincts reporting, Uvaldeans voted for Abbott over Democrat Beto O’Rourke—who supports gun control and has campaigned with help from Uvalde families—by a 22-point margin. "
It's hard to believe there is any fixing this. And I believe, like you, they are completely devoid of compassion, even for their own family and friends. I don't know how to break this hold on them. It's truly terrifying that they are willing to sacrifice their own children for political fealty.
Your words are the truth!! The children in America are suffering at the hands of selfish, greedy adults who care more about what they want than protecting future generations. Guns, pedophiles, bigots, and elected officials who take away funding for services and assistance that keep children housed, fed, and cared for with needed health care are serious problems for our children. Immediate action is essential and it shouldn’t be that hard to vote for policies that protect innocent lives. Let’s keep the pressure on those decision makers. Thanks for all your work and care for all.
In 2023, I emailed my congressman (Collins) to vote for a gun control bill coming up for a vote. He wrote me back saying he supports the 2nd amendment and will not vote for gun control. It was a bureaucratic no nonsense email that most republicans love. The next year (Sept 2024) , there was a high school shooting within the district he represents which killed students and teachers. The shooter was 14. The governor (Republican) came and tearfully urged “thoughts and prayers.” Republicans : Do right thing now!! GUN CONTROL NOW!!
Another thought about "thoughts and prayers": They were in the Sanctuary at Mass at the time of the shooting. If "thoughts and prayers" were ever going to be helpful, ever be the defense against mass shootings, this would have been the time. This was my first thought after the initial shock.
Pictures of politicians and people in positions of power who can help pass laws against AR show where they stand on the issue of guns. A picture, they say, is worth a 1000 words.
Thanks for speaking this awful truth so well and with such power. Oh, how I wish this could be required reading in all churches. What a fantasy. That the MAGA crowd claims the Second Amendment as a defense of this country’s truly terrible condition is so sad.
John - Yes, yes, and yes. Thank you for continuing to speak out to deaf ears. One note of language: there is no such group of people generally labeled "the mentally ill." There are people who suffer with mental illness, which is, statistically one in every five adults iideation. If we work harder to destygmatize mental illness, maybe those suffering from mental illness would be more likely to get treatment and less likely act out on suicidal or homicidal ideations. Surely Republicans could support increased funds and access for mental health care. Surely our churches could show more compassion and work to decrease stigma. Surely we can increase our conversation and education in our society regarding mental health.
All words.. true!
Sadly, you’re preaching to the choir….
It’s hard for me to imagine even one MAGA reading this article.
Christian thoughts have long left their souls.

That is truly horrible.
These politicians are not deserving of the offices they've been elected to. All they are is a cult, and not Christians.

With an administration arming the national guard, what should we expect?

Powerful. Thank you.
Powerful, as usual. The African proverb quoted by Mayor Frey "when you pray, move your feet" has never been more convicting.

JUST ANOTHER THING THEY CAN TURN A BLIND EYE TO!
SMHM
Spot on!¡!

Apologies for the typo (insertion of "iideation") As we know, there is no way to correct or edit our comments once posted.
