Mamdani could have been ANYONE. If he were female - they would be screaming about that. If he were Jewish - they would be whining about that. If he were Buddhist, gay, amputee, hearing-impaired, non-binary, Voodoo - it doesn't matter. As long as he were someone other than a white, cis, Christian male - somebody somewhere would find something to complain about. It's like they have this "wheel of fortune" hate thing that never stops spinning.
I consistently remind my MAGA leaning friends and family that Islam is one of the three religions of Abraham and is based on both Judism and Christianity. And if that isn't quite enough, I go through the pillars of Islam, a number of which promote the caring and compassion for others.
I personally was giddy with relief when he won over sexual predator cuomo. Finally! A young, courageous, visionary gentleman who in all appearances seems to actually give a damn about others, no matter their race, religion, or sexual preference. HALLELUJAH for NYC!
Mamdani is likely more in line with younger progressive voters than the stuffy geriatric Democrats in Congress who do little but write letters expressing their displeasure. Voters are ready for the new leaders like Hogg, OAC, and Ossoff. We need leaders who aren't afraid. This isn't a time for business as usual.
Have these people ever met an Indo-Muslim person? I worked with one for years - the kindest, gentlest, most devout individual I've ever met. When I was seriously ill I got him to come and pray for me at my bedside.
One way to turn down the rhetoric might be to remind people that he and Brad Lander, a Jew, coendorsed each other. The use of tribalism is killing us, literally…. We need to highlight that there is another way. These two are one of many examples we could use to do that.
I was just going to say that! Thank you. We need to make our electorate look like the real America. Diverse, and intelligent, and willing to support each other!
It's the same cruelty packaged under a Muslim banner. Stories told over and over about who is worthy and who isn't. Until a significant majority of people see every human as worthy of respect, as a sacred creation, we're going to keep circling around this insanity. I know those who are here see people that way, but how do we grow that circle of love outward?
Remembering the post 9/11 very vividly, I was expecting the ignorance and hatred of these lovely Christians to resurface. As if things weren’t already terrifying with ICE abductions and beatings, we’re in store for more abuse of innocent people in this “Christian” country. I’m starting to despair.
I’ve also seen Jewish people post that they no longer feel safe in New York. What?!? And after seeing the latest Supreme Court ruling about birth right citizenship, I’m having one of those days where I’m feeling exhausted. Just utterly and completely exhausted and hurting for the soul of the human species.
Nobody ever asks, although sometimes they should, whether a Christian would try to impose the tenets of their faith on citizens if elected to office. It's just assumed that a Jewish politician isn't going to ban bacon cheeseburgers if elected to mayor. Yet they get hysterical that a Muslim mayor would impose Sharia law, force women into Burkas, and single-handedly destroy Israel. Don't they have enough targets for their hate already?
The reason why there is coordinated outrage is because Mamdani refused to express support for Israel. Therefore he has been labeled as anti-semitic and funding has been channeled to smear him.
Boomer here. Excited about the outcome. The Democratic establishment is not serving us. But I’ve already heard from my hair stylist that we’re in for Sharia Law and mandatory burqas.
Just a side note: Akron, Ohio, has a Muslim mayor—Shammas Malik. He is young like Mandami and campaigned by going to the people. The job in Akron is difficult, but Shammas Malik is doing his best for the city he loves. There are some incredible young fighters out there.

Exactly!!!
I don't believe that is the case. I believe it is primarily a matter of his lack of support for Israel.
Dig deeper. It is far more than what you are saying.

Is there anything that Republicans like except guns, millionaires, and fake christianity?
Apparently kissing rumps fetid arse is ok as well.

Amen Patricia. Let's rise even higher to help these younger voters get a bright future in the America that they deserve.

I hope he goes on to win. I don't know anything about him just those against him. The current mayor does not have clean hands and needs to be gone.
